Its been a long time...

Today we took.myas bike out on the trail. She finally has an interest in riding it. We still have training wheels and I doubt they will come off any time soon....she talked the entire time she rode and was distracted by every squirrel we saw. This is her excited face as she was going so fast I had to run to keep up with her.

Kindergarten

Mya started school today. ...kind of. Drew and I went with her, had a parent meeting, and then we all went on a scavenger hunt around the building. She left with us at 10 so we didn't have to cry and leave each other. She was super excited to get to daycare though because now that she is in school she can play video games. She doesn't go back until Friday and doesn't have to go on Monday either. Tuesday will be the true test.

Kindergarten Check Up

Mya had her kindergarten physical yesterday. She was awesome and didn't cry when she got her 4 shots. She did crack the doctor up though....
Doctor: Do you ride a bike?
Mya: Ya with training wheels. My friend has a bike without training wheels. I just don't know how she's going to ride that thing.

Doctor: I'm going to name some fruits and you tell me if you like them. Apples, oranges, bananas, pineapple, watermelon....
Mya: What about cherries?
Doctor: Oh ya cherries. Do you like cherries?
Mya: No

Doctor says Mya has a great sense of humor but needs her tonsils removed. I asked why she sleeps so restless and doc says it's because her tonsils are so large. We will see the ear, nose, throat doc Monday.

This is the sandbagging that is put up along the river's path in Cody Park. This side faces the water.

This is a house along North River Road. The houses along this road are flooded or at least have water approaching. My friend's parents' house is on this road and they have been out of their house for a month now. They had to sell all of their cows because the water is up so high and there is no place for them to go. It's very sad to see these homes and the people working so hard to protect them.

According to the officials the river is stable at 7.5 feet. They are no longer letting water out of Big Mac so hopefully everything is in the clear. They are starting to think about the South Platte now but aren't too worried about it.

Circus is in town

We took Mya to the Shrine Circus. Her best friend, who no longer goes to daycare, was at the circus too...nope not the girl...the boy, Jackson. They are great friends and she is very sad that he no longer goes to Jack and Jill. Anyway, she had fun at the circus and even rode the elephant. 8 bucks for a 20 second ride but she had fun and that's all that matters.

I'm beginning to think tball is the longest season in any sport. We're still going strong. She's okay with it but does much better when she plays pitcher, catcher, or first base. The dirt and bugs are too distracting when you're in the outfield.

Special Olympic Torch Run

Dee (a sped teacher I work with) and I ran with the state troopers tonight for the Special Olympic Torch Run. The torch went from Maxwell to Cody Park in North Platte. We joined the group at the airport and ran the last 3.5 miles. It was an amazing experience and a lot of fun.

Mya had her first game. It was basically dance party usa. All the girls were spinning circles, playing in the dirt....not paying attention at all, including Mya. She did well when she was the catcher. She would get the ball and throw it to the coach so he could put it on the tee. She batted okay. This was the first game so I'm sure things will improve....let's hope they improve otherwise it's going to be a long season.

Lincoln Half Marathon

I ran the Lincoln Half Marathon on Sunday. 13.1 miles in 2 hrs. and 9 mins. It was pretty neat running into the Memorial Stadium and finishing on the 50 yard line.

Mya scored 4 goals at her last soccer game. It was so cold but the girls did great staying in the game and playing their hardest. Saturday the 7th she will have her last 2 soccer games. Mya's going to miss it so much.

Tonight Drew, Mya, and I went and practiced t-ball. She's getting great at throwing and catching.

We had a ridiculous amount of snow on Thursday night so things had to be adjusted for the Tinker Tri on Friday. They took the biking out of the competition and just did a swim and run. Mya loves taking part in this annual event and didn't care what the weather was like. She wanted her medal!! She swam across the pool by herself and ran 4 laps in the gym. She could have kept running. It's her favorite part.

Lots of Snow

This weekend we had 7 inches of snow and are expecting more tonight. We ate soup, watched movies, and were complete bums all weekend. Today was a perfect day for sledding and playing in the snow.

We had another great trip to Baton Rouge to see Jeremy. We went to Grand Isle (the edge of the USA) and to New Orleans. We took the cold weather with us so it was cold our entire trip. Mya wanted to know why we had to "seed Jeremy" again since we had "seed him a lot."

Mya did excellent at her Christmas program for daycare. It's bittersweet to think this was her last preschool Christmas program. The picture is of her and her two best friends from daycare; Jackson and Marla.
Marla's last name is Martinez. Mya calls her Marla Batinez. When we were watching a husker game one day Mya asked if Marla's dad played for the huskers. I said no and asked her why she would think that. She said, "They just said his name." I didn't catch on until a little bit later when they said Taylor Martinez and Mya screamed out "see they just said Marla's dad's name."

Lately Mya has been asking why men can't have babies but girls can. I told her girls had a special stomach where the baby goes and boys don't have that. She started crying and said, "Do I have to have a baby when I grow up?" I told her not if she didn't want to her. She said, "I'm your baby and when I get older I still want to be your baby." Then she said she doesn't want to get married or have a "lover." Not sure where that word came from. I told her she might change her mind when she is really old. Oh no. Wrong thing to say. She started to really cry then and said she doesn't want to get old and have her skin be "crude." If she's old she will die and she doesn't want to die. Geez! Such worries for a little girl.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a fun Thanksgiving weekend in Minden. We were able to see everyone including Uncle Jeremy and Grandma P. We also did the Christmas Traditions on the square and went to the pageant...oh and we went to see the movie Tangled. Mya now wants to grow her hair long...oh wait she's crying because she thinks if she grows her hair long it will have magical powers. Nevermind, she wants it cut tomorrow when she wakes up. We went to the Seussical Musical today in North Platte at the Fox Theater. It was very cute and NP has a lot of talented people. Mya loved it!! I can't wait to take her to Mary Poppins in Omaha.

Broken Arm

Mya broke her arm on Tuesday. She was jumping on the trampoline with the babysitter and, according to her, "got a little wild like a monkey" and fell off the tramp. Yes we have a net around the trampoline but she never zips it shut and that is where she fell out. She broke both bones in her arm. It was a break on the inside of the bone and not the outside. The doctor thinks that it will heal in 2 weeks so we will go back in 2 weeks to find out. She's in a soft cast right now and is using a sling. The sling doesn't match any of her dresses (that's what she says) so we made it pretty.

This time we went to Jeffery Lake which is a short drive in the canyons. It was perfect because there were few boats on the lake and the wind was blocked by the canyons. Mya and Drew caught a lot of fish.

Triathalons

Mya participated in the Tinker Tri on Friday. She swam from one end of the pool to the other, rode her bike 1/2 mile and ran a quarter mile. She loved it and will tell you all about it if you ask. Her favorite part was running and getting the medal at the end ("because it's all about having fun"). I'm so proud of her. She did awesome. (sorry about the sideway pics)

I did mine on Sunday and survived!! Swam it in 9 mins (well, I walked it because that's easier and I can walk it faster than I can swim it doggie paddling), biked 14 miles in 1 hr and 7 mins (disappointed with this time but the wind was blowing like crazy on the way out (the first 7 miles) and I wanted to just quit. The way in I was riding at lightning speed), ran 3 miles in 31 mins (had to walk some in the beginning 1 1/2 miles because my legs were like jello but the last mile I didn't feel a thing...mentally or physically). My transition times were 4 mins from swimming to running (which would explain why I'm always late for work..it takes me forever to get my legs in my pants) and 3 seconds from biking to running. It was fun. I'm glad I can say I've completed one. I'll do it again next year I'm sure. Now it's time to get ready for the BolderBoulder.

Cheer Camp

Mya participated in the 2010 Cheer Camp at North Platte High this weekend. At first, she didn't want to be a cheerleader and was very shy but after 10 mins or so she finally got into it. She learned a few chants, had a snack, and made a ponytail holder with fabric scraps then she was tired so while some of the other girls (not all of them- because they are 4 years old - they all didn't listen or sit still) were learning jumps, she was laying on the bleachers with some cheerleaders. That night they got to perform at half time during the boys basketball game. She did great during the performance and sat with the cheerleaders the entire game which was nice for Drew and I. Bulldogs lost but of well....Go Blue!! Go Dawgs!! Go Big Blue!!!

The Trip

Tuesday: We had to leave early due to the snow storm that was headed our way. Our take off time from Minden was 4:30pm. I had brought a box of goodies for Mya to have in the car (dvds, books, coloring books, workbooks, and snacks). She had gone through everything before we made it to Franklin (30 mins). She looked at the map as soon as we crossed into Kansas and said, "I think we're almost there." We only wished. By the time we finally turned to go south, it felt like we had been in the car for 8 hours and it hadn't even been 3 hours. I made a wrong turn in Wichita but we got turned around. Drew took over the driving and was able to make it to Gainesville, Texas.

Wednesday: Luckily for mom and I, Drew had a conference call Wednesday morning, so we were able to get up and go shopping at the outlet mall next to the motel. We spent a little money, picked up Drew, and headed across Texas. Again, I made a wrong turn in McKinney and ended up going the wrong way down a one way. Thank goodness it wasn't a busy road. It rained off and on the entire time we drove through Texas. By the time we got to Longview, Texas it was pitch black to the north of us. I was driving along the interstate when all of a sudden the sirens in town went off. Scared the shit out of me. Drew got on the internet and I turned to a radio station. There was a tornado in town just north of us that was touching down. If you know me, you know how scared of tornadoes I am. I stepped on it and was going 90mph just to get out of town. After that the skies were clear. We stopped in Alexandria, Louisiana to get gas and eat. There is an excellent bbq place called Eddies that is connected to the gas station. The best dirty rice ever! We made it to Jeremy's around 10pm.

Thursday (Christmas Eve): Jeremy had to work and so did Drew so once again mom, Mya, and I headed to the mall. Mya and I bounced on the bunge trampoline thing and rode the Merry Go Round. Jeremy was off work at noon so we were able to eat at a sushi place. It was awesome. $15 bucks a person and all the sushi you could eat. Good treats!! Jeremy then took us on a tour of Baton Rouge. We stopped on campus to see the LSU tiger. He drank his pee and then gagged (just wanted you to know in case Mya starts talking about drinking pee- now you know why). We went downtown, saw the USS kid, the Mississippi River, creepy cemeteries, the hood, and Jeremy's work place. It's a nice town and I hope Jeremy is liking it.

Friday (Christmas Day): I cooked us lunch. Shocker, I know. It was okay- nothing to brag about that's for sure. After we ate, we drove to the Gulf of Mexico (southwest of Baton Rouge). The further south you go, the higher the houses. It was neat to see how they put their houses up so high. We stopped to take a pic of the intercoastal waters and there was trash everywhere. What we didn't see was an alligator, darn it. We crossed on a ferry and made it to the beach on time to see the sunset. It was beautiful and Mya loved picking up seashells. She pooped on the beach too (now how many people can say they pooped on the Gulf of Mexico- but when you're 4 and you have to go...you have to go). On our way home, Jeremy made a wrong turn down a one way but after that safely got us back to his house. (There is something wrong with the roads in the south that cause us Nebraska folk confusion.)

Saturday: Drew and Jerm got up early to get to Nawlins (this is how you say it) to go on their fishing trip. Mom, Mya, and I took our time getting to Nawlins. We stopped at Oak Alley Plantation. It was gorgeous. There were other plantations next to Oak Alley and one still had their slave quarters. So much history...there were stories of the plantation owners, posted were the contents of the house and their prices, and the names of the slaves and how much they cost the plantation owners. That was creepy to see. If you see me sometime, I'll share the plantation stories with you. After we left the plantation, we drove into Nawlins. We noted the exit for the cemeteries (that was a must see on my list) and headed down to the French Quarter. Drew and Jerm met up with us and we walked around, saw the cathedral, and Jackson Square (voodoo ceremonies occurred here- and other things too but I was interested in the voodoo stuff). One of the buildings next to the cathedral is where the Louisiana Purchase was signed but I forgot to look into that...too busy taking everything in. We headed to Bourbon street and I'm surprised we weren't arrested for child neglect. It wasn't a place for Mya to be but now she never has to go back. =) Drew had to cover her face a couple of times when we walked by the bars with the XXX rated photos outside and some of the girls dressed in panties and bras only hid in the dark corners when they saw us coming. It was wild and I can only imagine what it's like during Mardi Gras. On our way home, mom and I stopped at that exit we had noted, pulled over on the side of the road, and took pics of the cemeteries. They are creepy looking since they're above ground. There was so much to see and do in Nawlins, I wish we had more time there. It's a city on my list that I must see again.

Sunday: We went shopping at the Gonzales outlet mall while Drew and Jerm went to Cabelas. Then we headed home. We stopped in a little town to get some special bread my dad likes. They had all sorts of different foods and fresh cracklins (pork fat and skin fried). Drew ate the cracklins so fast (it will come back to haunt him). We drove and drove and drove and finally made it to Oklahoma City for the night. Around 4 am, Drew woke up and got sick...he was puking sick for a long time. We all ate the same thing....except for the cracklins! Fried pork fat does not mix well with Drew's insides I guess.

Monday: We drove and drove and drove and drove and made it back to snowy Nebraska!

Now we are off to Omaha......on the road again.

Gingerbread Houses

Sofie and Tiff came over to make gingerbread houses. We laughed so hard my face hurt. The girls opened their gifts and had matching pjs, blankets, and slippers. They immediately put them on and posed like teenagers. You know that "sexy" look that everyone does with the camera. Well, for some reason, Tiffany and I suck at it. We try and try but just can't get it down. Maybe because we're laughing so hard all the time. But our 4 year olds have it down. They looked like they were posing at some sorority party. Scary thought huh? After we all posed for pics in front of the Christmas tree, we made our gingerbread houses. Again we were laughing at the fact that we covered every North Platte neighborhood...Leota, Key Estates (trailer park), North Side, and Mid town. Funny stuff.

Letters to Santa

5k Turkey Trot

Korene and I ran the turkey trot in Ogallala. We both did it under 30 mins. Mine was barely under 30 but hey I'll take what I can get. We're doing it again next Saturday in the Jingle Bell Run in North Platte. We must be insane. Actually, they're fun to do and the money always goes to a great cause and we always leave with a shirt and some memories. Thanks Korene for joining me!

Christmas on the Square

We did all the events on the square in Minden again this year with Grandma P, Amy and Mitchell, and Jake and Miranda. Allyson joined us for a few things too. It was fun for the kids and exhausting for the moms.
